How Interstellar brought the Murph to life
In Christopher Nolan's 2014 film Interstellar, NASA pilot Joseph Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) gives his daughter Murph a Hamilton field watch before leaving on a mission that will separate them for years, telling her they can compare notes on how time passed differently for each of them once he returns. That watch becomes the emotional and narrative anchor of the entire film, and in its final act, Cooper uses the watch's second hand to send Murph a Morse code message through a tesseract, a message she deciphers in the film's pivotal "Eureka!" moment to save humanity.

The 42mm original — and its Morse code second hand
When Hamilton first released the Khaki Field Murph commercially, it came in 42mm, a faithful recreation of the movie's prop watch, right down to a hidden tribute: the word "Eureka" printed in lacquer, in Morse code, directly on the second hand. From 42mm to 38mm, and now in blue
In 2022, Hamilton introduced a smaller, more wearable 38mm version of the Murph, dropping the Morse code second hand in favour of a cleaner dial, a trade-off for a case size that suits a far wider range of wrists. Now, that 38mm Murph gets its most atmospheric dial yet: a blue-to-black gradient inspired by the glowing ionised gases around an interstellar comet, finished with a grained, stardust-like texture that gives it real depth on the wrist. The signature domed numerals and cathedral-shaped hands carry over, so it's unmistakably still a Murph.
