Seiko turns 145 this year, and rather than marking it with one flagship watch, the brand has dressed nine of its most recognisable families in a single, deliberate colour: Edo-murasaki, or "Edo Purple," a rich violet tied to old Tokyo that was once a shade reserved for nobility. It's a lovely piece of brand storytelling, and because the collection spans everything from an everyday diver to a titanium GPS watch, there's genuinely a piece here for every kind of customer who walks through our doors — not just the collectors.
Here's the full lineup, organised by family:
- Prospex Alpinist HBC006 — the collection's mechanical heart. 39.5mm steel case, rotating compass bezel, automatic 6R55 movement, 200m water resistance. Limited to 7,000 pieces worldwide.
- Seiko 5 Sports SKX HDB003 — the approachable diver everyone's been talking about. 42.5mm steel, automatic 4R36, 100m water resistance. Limited to 9,999 pieces worldwide — the most accessible entry point into the whole collection.
- Presage Cocktail Time HCB006 — the dress-watch option, with a translucent purple dial that genuinely shows off the "cocktail" name. 40.5mm steel, automatic 4R34 with GMT function, 50m water resistance. Limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide.
- Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph HBJ005 — the chronograph of the set, solar-powered so there's no battery to swap. 41.4mm steel, V192 solar quartz movement, 100m water resistance. Limited to 8,000 pieces worldwide.
- Astron Nexter GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph HAB011 — the flagship, GPS-synced to the correct time zone anywhere on earth at the push of a button. 43.3mm titanium case, 5X83 GPS solar movement. Limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide.
- Astron Nexter Solar Radio HAD003 and HAC003 — two Japan-only Astron variants (one 41.3mm, one a smaller 36mm case) using radio-controlled solar quartz rather than GPS. 500 pieces each, Japan-exclusive.
- Lukia Grow HEE004 — the ladies' piece in the collection, a compact 27.9mm titanium case with solar radio-controlled quartz. Limited to just 400 pieces, Japan-exclusive.
- Seiko Selection S-Series Digital Quartz HFL001 — a fun, left-field inclusion: a digital quartz watch inspired by Seiko's 1982 "Rotocall," with a rotating purple bezel. 37mm steel, A824 quartz module. Limited to 4,000 pieces worldwide.
What makes this worth a full write-up rather than a single-watch post is that three of these nine — both Astron Solar Radio variants and the Lukia Grow — are Japan-domestic exclusives that most English-language coverage has skipped entirely, since the global press release only mentioned six models. That's squarely in Watches Of Japan territory: customers who want something genuinely different from what every other Seiko retailer is showing can be pointed to pieces that, as far as we can tell, aren't being talked about anywhere else locally yet.
It's a useful one to feature as a collection rather than a single model: a customer drawn in by the SKX diver's purple dial might leave having fallen for the Cocktail Time dress watch instead, or decide the ladies' Lukia Grow is the better gift.
