What actually makes a watch a "dive watch"

Plenty of watches borrow diver looks — a rotating bezel, a chunky case — without the substance behind them. A genuine dive watch, in the tradition set by ISO 6425, should have:

• Meaningful water resistance — 200m or deeper for a true diver's rating (100m is fine for swimming and showering, but isn't a diver's spec)
• A unidirectional rotating bezel that only turns counter-clockwise, so accidentally bumping it shortens your remaining air-time estimate rather than extending it
• High-legibility lume on the hands, hour markers, and bezel pip, readable in low light
• A screw-down crown (and usually screw-down caseback) to seal water out under pressure
